Registration for promovendi

The twelfth Conferment of Degrees Ceremony for Masters and Doctors from all faculties will be held on 22–24 May 2026.

This registration form is for promovendi. There is a separate registration form for the companions of promovendi. There also is a separate registration form for those who wish to participate in absence (absens).

The registration for the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is open from 16 October 2025 to 1 February 2026 or until the maximum number of participants is reached. Places are filled in the order of registration. The registration is binding, and participation fees are paid in connection of registration through online banking.

Who can participate in the conferment of degrees?

Anyone who has completed a master’s or doctoral degree at the University of Jyväskylä and has not yet been conferred can participate. The degree must be completed before participating in the conferment of degrees. You can register if you will complete your degree before the end of January 2026.

You can only have one companion and the companion must be same to all events.

Photographs and videos in the conferment events

Photographs and video footage will be taken at the events. Both general and close-up shots will be taken at the event. These will be used in invitations and on the website as promotional images, as well as on posters. The photographs may also be used in the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony book, which participants can order for themselves after the event if they wish.

Menu selection for dinner *
Food served in the conferment of degrees events is mostly fish and vegan (special diets are considered). For the Dinner and Ball on Saturday, there is a vegan option and a meat option. Please select your menu option.

Participation

Participation in the church service or the non-denominational event *
After the Act of Conferment on Saturday a procession forms to go to the church service in the Jyväskylä City Church. Promovendi and their companion can also participate in a non-denominational event (Festum Scientiae) at the Jyväskylä City Hall.

Accessibility
All facilities of the conferment events are not fully accessible. Therefore, please notify the organisers in advance about possible accessibility restrictions or other factors that may affect the arrangements (e.g. illness, pregnancy).
Participation of a master promovendi and a doctoral promovendi together
Answer this question only if your companion is a promovendi and participates in the events as a master or doctoral promovendi.

If you will participate in the conferment of degrees with another promovendi and one of you is a master’s graduate and the other a doctoral graduate, you can decide how you wish to participate in the Garland Weaving Dinner and the Sword Sharpening Dinner, which are held in different buildings on Friday, 22 May 2026.

Options

(a) You participate in separate events: the master’s graduate participates in the Garland Weaving Dinner, where a laurel wreath will be woven for the participant. The doctoral graduate participates in the Sword Sharpening Dinner where a marshal will assist the participant instead of the companion.

(b) You both participate in the Sword Sharpening Dinner: the master’s graduate assists the doctoral graduate in sword whetting. Please note, in this case the master's graduate will not be able to participate in the Garland Weaving Dinner. The organisers weave the laurel wreath for the master’s graduate.

Orders

The participation fee includes
- Garland Weaving Dinner or Sword Sharpening Dinner on 22 May
- participation in the Act of Conferment on 23 May, where the promovendi receive a master’s or doctoral degree, a diploma in Latin, and an electronic promovendi register book that contains information on the participants of the Conferment Ceremony.
- dinner and ball (a gala dinner with drinks) on 23 May

The participation fee for the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is €260 for promovendi and €240 for companions.
The Act of Conferment fee is tax-free and accounts for €80 of the total price. Other events during the Conferment of Degrees weekend are subject to VAT.
Although the price components are shown separately, participants must select all options, as they together form the entire event package. It is not possible to participate only in the Act of Conferment.

Additionally the promovendi and their companion can participate on cruise on Sunday, May 24th. The participation fee for the cruise is 50€ / person. There are a limited number of places available on the cruise, and registration will close once all places are filled.

Cancellation terms and conditions



Registration for the Conferment of Degrees Ceremony is binding. Cancellation of participation and refund of the participation fee is only possible for very compelling reasons (e.g., health-related reasons proven by a medical certificate).

Cancellations and requests for refunds, including justification, must be sent by email to promootio@jyu.fi no later than April 1, 2026. When sending health information or other sensitive information, we recommend using the university's secure email. A processing fee of €50 will be deducted from the refundable amount. Requests for refunds of participation fees received after April 1, 2026, will not be considered.
